Right now, we have over 40 Danes on our incoming
list.
Foster homes and donations are desperately
needed.
We
are working on making room for 19 Danes from a breeder/collector that
is being court ordered to get rid of the Danes due to nuisance charges
(excessive number of dogs and barking). They consist of 3 breeding
pairs and pups from litters of those adults. The Danes range
in age from 11 months to 5 years, they are mostly Boston, black, a few
Harls and a few Boston merles. The adults have
spent some time indoors, but all of the pups have been total outdoor
dogs, so we expect that few, if any will be housebroken. Many
of the pups were never named, they have not been trained and we expect
they will all need serious work.
12-19 Update - The 19 dogs were taken
yesterday by Animal Control on cruelty and neglect charges. They
will be held at Animal Control until the court date - which will be in
about 45 days. Since the owner had already been court ordered to
get rid of the dogs, Animal Control feels they will be getting custody
of all the dogs. We are working with Animal Control to pull the
dogs at that time.
2-1 Update
- The owner has given up custody of 11 of the Danes. We will be
getting some of them into rescue some time next week. The
cruelty/neglect case against the breeder goes to court on 2-14.
Funding will be needed to
help with transport, Veterinary care and upkeep
for all of these Danes.
